How to Choose Dog Collar Webbing?
Material, width and strength for collars and leashes — matched to the dog’s size, plus buckle pairing.
For dog collars, polyester or nylon webbing are common choices. As a general starting point, around 15 mm may be considered for small dogs, 20–25 mm for medium dogs, and 25–40 mm for large or strong breeds. These widths are general guidance, not safety ratings. Final collar suitability should be validated as a complete system, including the webbing, stitching, buckle, hardware and overall construction, according to the intended use and any applicable standards or customer specifications.
We manufacture webbing for pet-accessory applications in Istanbul. Selecting collar webbing involves material, width and construction, but the performance of the finished collar also depends on stitching, buckles, hardware and the complete assembly. Tekiş webbing is produced under OEKO-TEX Standard 100 within the scope of the current certificate.
What webbing is best for dog collars?
Synthetics win for collars: polyester is the everyday default — UV-stable, color-fast and tough — while nylon is the strongest and most abrasion-resistant for big or pulling dogs. Softer cotton-feel or padded webbing suits fashion and comfort lines. For the full material trade-offs, see our Webbing Materials guide.

The widths below are general starting points only and should not be treated as safety ratings. The finished collar must be evaluated as a complete system, including webbing, stitching, buckle, hardware and construction, according to the intended use and any applicable standards or customer specifications.
| Dog size | Collar width | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Small / puppy | 10–15 mm | Light, comfortable |
| Medium | 20–25 mm | All-round, most popular |
| Large / strong | 25–40 mm | Spreads load, controls pullers |
| Leashes | 20–25 mm | Comfort in the hand |
How strong does collar webbing need to be?
For large and pulling dogs, breaking strength matters — wider, higher-tenacity webbing plus a reinforced bartack at the join. In practice the stitching and hardware are often the weak point, not the webbing, so test the finished collar as a system.

How to Choose Dog Collar Webbing? How do webbing and buckles pair?
The webbing width must match the buckle and hardware — 25 mm webbing needs a 25 mm buckle. We weave the webbing and can supply collar strap (product Z206); buckles and metal hardware are sourced to your specification rather than made in-house, so you get a matched, ready-to-assemble set.

Can collar webbing be printed or branded?
Yes — jacquard-woven or printed webbing carries a pet brand’s name or pattern, in custom colors and private label, ideal for retail-ready collars and leashes.
