What is Ribbon?
The most elegant accessory in textiles — adding style to packaging, decoration, and ornamentation.
Ribbon is a type of textile tape produced using the narrow weaving method and used for ornamentation, packaging, and decoration. The word entered Turkish from the French word “cordelle” meaning “thin cord.” It is generally produced from polyester, nylon, or cotton yarns and diversified through different weaving methods such as satin, grosgrain, and organza.
Unlike bias binding, ribbon is not obtained by cutting fabric on the bias; it is produced directly on narrow weaving looms by interlacing yarns lengthwise and crosswise. Therefore, it has a thicker, more durable structure and is usually usable on both sides. The true strength of ribbon lies in its visual richness: shiny satin, matte grosgrain, transparent organza, and custom printed varieties meet different aesthetic needs.
